Monday Ops

Monday was a different sort of day, most Monday’s are, but after uncomfortable ones and windy etc, it was refreshing to be coolish with an abundance of cue early, well the cue stayed but thick cirrus came in over the top and the best lift retreated to the east, as usual. There was no doubting which end to use either with a good strength on the nose at 23…The 1000 had a couple of good flights early and totalled 4 flights for just 2 hrs whilst...

Monday Ops

Monday was a sort of agonising day…..which end?  Swinging between 05 and 23 and favouring 13….My thoughts usually are that we end up at 23 anyway, but in the end we did go 13 and the wind stayed relatively strong there all day, and that is a bit unusual. The lift got stronger as well as the day went along, with the best lift at 4pm, up to 8Kts but just short of 4,000ft. Reckon that it would have stayed ‘til much later and possibly got better!....

Monday Ops

As I sit here in sunny WA, 31C, with pure blue sky, I ponder upon how different the weather was in  Gawler on Monday. It was obvious that there was plenty of moisture in the air and that the clouds were working very early, even when I was walking Mollie in the park. The conditions just looked good.  By the time we operated, the wind had gained a moderate amount of strength with good looking clouds all over and once again, quite cold. The stats...

Monday Ops

Last day of Winter and what a change it was. Walking Mollie early there was not a cloud anywhere in the sky, generally this year been walking in mist/fog/rain. It panned out to be a very pleasant day indeed, with just a few clouds popping mid morning. These managed to encroach over Gawler by midday. First flights at 12noon saw both the 103 and 505 with extended flights but the lift was not extreme, on the contrary it was a bit uninspiring but...

Monday Ops

A very subdued start to the day on Monday with only one booked to fly and test flying of JN the only thing on the cards a slow start was in order. At least Mollie had a good long walk. With Tom away, all things seemed to fall into a hole, with the secondary sock over by Phil’s breaking its tether making it read worse than ever, if that’s possible, and Gerald’s grass cutting priority and method driving me to sobs! Sort of sorted, but gliders, or...

Monday Ops

Once again we did operate on Monday, walking Mollie in the am with wisps of fog sort of lifted the spirits a bit as it looked a lot like the previous day. How wrong can I have been, the low cloud simply hung on and on ‘till about 1pm. Continual checks were made on the One Tree Hill road ridge, 800ft, to see if the cloud had lifted and seemed to take forever. We finally had a volunteer to be a guinea-pig and check it out, he needed a currency...
